Summarizing the Lesson

To summarize this lesson, tell students to think about the patterns in the Place Value Chart II and the new models you built.

  • How would you build a model for 10 million? (We would need 10 mega bits, which is ten sets of 1,000,000 bits.)

Once students are comfortable with the Place Value Chart II, play the game Draw, Place, and Read. The directions are in the Student Activity Book. This can be played in small groups, as partners, or as a class.

Observe students while they are playing Draw, Place and Read in the Student Activity Book to assess their ability to read large numbers [E1].

Targeted practice on reading and writing large numbers is in the Lesson 7 Workshop.

After students are familiar with the game, assign Questions 15–17 in the Student Guide.
