Homework and Practice

  • Questions 5–9 in the Student Guide can be assigned as homework after Part 1 or used as classwork.
  • Questions 1–4 in the Homework section of the Student Guide can be assigned after Part 2.
  • Questions 5–12 in the Homework section of the Student Guide can be assigned after Part 3.

Show students a map of the United States before assigning Questions 11 and 12 in the Homework section. Question 11 involves the length of the coast lines. Question 12 involves the area of land and the area of water in the United States.

  • Assign Home Practice Parts 5–7. Part 5 provides practice with the counting-back strategy for subtraction. Part 6 provides practice with using a number line to estimate and then round large numbers. In Part 7, students use estimation strategies to solve problems involving population.
  • Assign DPP items S–V. DPP Task V provides practice using different strategies to solve a multiplication problem.

Math Facts. Task T provides practice with fact families. Bit S is an assessment of the fact families for the 5s and 10s, using multiplication and division. Bit U is a quiz on the division facts for the 5s and 10s.
