An efficient strategy for learning the division facts is to think of the multiplication facts in the same fact family. DPP item B reviews using break-apart strategies for the last six multiplication facts.

In Part 1 of the Home Practice, students are reminded to take home their Triangle Flash Cards: Last Six Facts.

Inform students when the quiz on the last six facts will be. This quiz appears in item O.

Ongoing Assessment

Students use DPP item A and their Triangle Flash Cards to self-assess their fluency with the division faxts related to the last six multiplication fact [E7].

See the Letter Home for targeted practice ideas.

A. The Last Six Facts

With a partner, use your Triangle Flash Cards: Last Six Facts to quiz each other on the related division facts for the last six multiplication facts (24 ÷ 6, 24 ÷ 4, 28 ÷ 7, 28 ÷ 4, 32 ÷ 8, 32 ÷ 4, 42 ÷ 7, 42 ÷ 6, 48 ÷ 8, 48 ÷ 6, 56 ÷ 8, 56 ÷ 7). Ask your partner first to cover the numbers in the squares. Use the two uncovered numbers to solve a division fact. Then, ask your partner to cover the numbers in the circles. Use the uncovered numbers to solve a division fact.

After each time through the cards, separate them into three piles: Facts I Know Quickly, Facts I Can Figure Out, and Facts I Need to Learn. Practice the last two piles again, and make a list of the facts you need to practice at home for homework.

Circle the facts you know and can answer quickly on your Division Facts I Know chart.

Your teacher will tell you when you will take the quiz on these facts.
