Distribute and prepare the Triangle Flash Cards: Last Six Facts.

After students sort the cards, encourage them to practice the facts in the last two piles. As the class discusses strategies, emphasize those strategies that are more efficient than others.

An important strategy is to use the related multiplication facts.

The Home Practice reminds students to bring home their Triangle Flash Cards: Last Six Facts to study.

Inform students when the quiz on the division facts for the last six facts will be given. This quiz appears in item W.

Ongoing Assessment

Students self-assess their progress on the division facts related to the last six multiplication facts using the Triangle Flash Cards [E10]. Have students use this information to update their Division Facts I Know charts.

See the Letter Home for targeted practice ideas.

A. Triangle Flash Cards: Last Six Facts

With a partner, use your Triangle Flash Cards: Last Six Facts to quiz each other on the related division facts for the last six multiplication facts (24 ÷ 6, 24 ÷ 4, 28 ÷ 7, 28 ÷ 4, 32 ÷ 8, 32 ÷ 4, 42 ÷ 7, 42 ÷ 6, 48 ÷ 8, 48 ÷ 6, 56 ÷ 8, 56 ÷ 7).

Ask your partner to first cover the numbers in the squares. Use the two uncovered numbers to solve a division fact. Then ask your partner to cover the numbers in the circles. Use the uncovered numbers to solve a division fact.

After each time through the cards, separate them into three piles: Facts I Know Quickly, Facts I Can Figure Out, and Facts I Need to Learn. Practice the last two piles again, and make a list of the facts you need to practice at home for homework. Circle the facts you know and can answer quickly on your Division Facts I Know chart.

Your teacher will tell you when you will take the quiz on these facts.
