Lesson 7

Decimal Hoppers

Est. Class Sessions: 2

Summarizing the Lesson

Use Questions 9–12 to summarize the lesson and provide practice adding and subtracting simple decimal quantities. Have students work with partners to solve these problems.

Question 11 involves estimation and comparison. Students need only recognize that since 0.68 + 0.38 is greater than one, the sum of 1.68 + 1.38 is greater than three. Therefore, Jackie's dad bought enough ground beef.

Select one or two of these questions and ask students to discuss their solutions with the whole class.

Use Check-In: Questions 12–13 in the Student Guide to assess how well students add and subtract decimals using models [E9].

Use the Start, Hop, Stop! game in the Student Activity Book as targeted practice.
