This ongoing project extends for the first 100 days of the school year. Within the contexts of money and the calendar, students gather and organize data and use patterns to make predictions and estimates. During this process, students solve problems that connect to many important concepts in the curriculum including grouping and counting, place value, addition, and multiplication.

Content in this Lesson

  • Using mental math strategies and reasoning strategies (e.g., using doubles, making ten) to solve addition and subtraction problems within 20 [E2].
  • Identifying the relationships between pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters [E4].
  • Finding the value of a collection of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters [E5].
