You may want to reword the question. Say, “23 is between which two numbers?” or “Name a number less than 23. Name a number greater than 23.” Then write the two numbers suggested by the students on the board or other display and explain this is another interval that 23 is in. For example, 23 is also in the 20 to 25 interval.
