TIMS Task

Use DPP item J to provide practice using multiplication and division to solve problems.

  1. Possible response: I agree with Moe. If Moe and Joe want each person to have two hot dogs they need to have 48 hot dogs. If they buy 4 packages they will only have 40 hot dogs, but if they buy 5 packages they will have 50 hot dogs. Everyone will get two hot dogs with two left over.
  2. Moe and Joe can buy 6 packages of buns. They need 48 buns and 6 × 8 = 48 buns.
  3. Moe and Joe need 48 fruit punch boxes. They will need to buy 3 packages. I added 16 + 16 + 16 = 48 juice boxes. They will not have any left over.
  4. Moe and Joe will need to make 3 pans of brownies. I multiplied 3 × 9 = 27. They will have 3 brownies left over.
