TIMS Task

This DPP item provides a review of many of the multiplication facts by asking students to find the unknown in a multiplication or division number sentence.

  1. 8; 8 × 6 = 48
    48 ÷ 6 = 8
    48 ÷ 8 = 6
  2. 49; 49 ÷ 7 = 7
  3. 9; 3 × 9 = 27
    27 ÷ 9 = 3
    27 ÷ 3 = 9
  4. 8; 32 ÷ 4 = 8
    4 × 8 = 32
    8 × 4 = 32
  5. 6; 6 × 7 = 42
    42 ÷ 6 = 7
    42 ÷ 7 = 6
  6. 9; 6 × 9 = 54
    54 ÷ 6 = 9
    54 ÷ 9 = 6
  7. 18; 6 × 3 = 18
    18 ÷ 6 = 3
    18 ÷ 3 = 6
  8. 8; 8 × 7 = 56
    56 ÷ 8 = 7
    56 ÷ 7 = 8
  9. 6; 10 × 6 = 60
    60 ÷ 10 = 6
    60 ÷ 6 = 10
  10. Responses will vary. One possible response for E: I know 7 × 3 = 21; 6 is double 3 so the answer is double 21, or 42.

T. Practicing Multiplication Facts

Find the number for n that will make each number sentence true. Then write the other number sentences in the same fact family.

  1. 6 × n = 48 n = __________
  2. 7 × 7 = n n = __________
  3. n × 3 = 27 n = __________
  4. 32 ÷ n = 4 n = __________
  5. 7 × n = 42 n = __________
  6. 54 = n × 6 n = __________
  7. n = 3 × 6 n = __________
  8. 7 × n = 56 n = __________
  9. n × 10 = 60 n = __________
  10. Choose one fact that you did not know right away or that used to be hard for you. Describe a good strategy for finding the answer.
