TIMS Bit

This item provides practice estimating volume. Choose an odd-shaped jar which has a volume between 500 cc and 1500 cc for this activity. Show students 100 cc of water as a benchmark. Discuss students' estimation strategies.

For Question 2, you will need a graduated cylinder.

G. Estimating Volume Again

  1. Estimate the volume of the jar your teacher shows you. Write down your estimate and be ready to share your estimation strategy with the class.
  2. After everyone has made his or her estimate, a student from the class will find the volume of the jar using a graduated cylinder.
