TIMS Task

Mrs. Smith started with $60.00. Possible response: I added $12.00 + 15.00 + 3.00 and got $30.00. Then I doubled that to $60.00 because that was only half of her money, so she also spent $30.00 on fiction books.

J. A Trip to the Bookstore

Mrs. Smith went to the bookstore to buy books for her class library. She spent half of her money on fiction books. She spent $12.00 on nonfiction books about sports and $15.00 on nonfiction books about animals. When she got home she still had $3.00 left. How much money did Mrs. Smith have to start with? Show or tell how you solved the problem.
