  1. 4 + 2 =  6; Possible story: Ming ran 4 laps before lunch and then ran two more after lunch. How many laps did Ming run?
  2.  1 + 2 = 3; Possible story: Mara added 2 shells to her collection. She now has 3 shells in her collection. How many shells in her collection at the start?
  3. 3 +  1 = 4; Possible story: Jerome has 4 fish. Three of them are goldfish and the rest are guppies. How many guppies does Jerome have?
  4. Drawings and stories will vary.
