TIMS Challenge

Ask the students to share their solutions. Possible solutions include:

  1. 8 weeks; Ted needs almost $11. It takes 2 weeks to save $3, 4 weeks to save $6, 6 weeks to save $9, 7 weeks to save $10.50, 8 weeks to save $12.00
    8 × $ 1.50 = $12.00
Ted will have $1.05 left over.
  2. 6 weeks; Tad needs $15.00 − $5.50 = $9.50. He can save $ 1.75 in one week, $3.50 in 2 weeks, $5.25 in 3 weeks, $7.00 in 4 weeks, $8.75 in 5 weeks, $10.50 in 6 weeks. Tad will have $1.00 left over.
