TIMS Bit

Be sure students read the numbers accurately. For example, in Question 1, students should begin, “one-tenth, two-tenths, three-tenths, etc.” For Question 3, encourage students to say, “five and one-tenth” not “five point one.”

The keystrokes listed work with most calculators that have the constant feature. Test your calculator to make sure that these keystrokes are appropriate for the model you use. If your calculator has the constant feature, each time the equal sign is pressed in the keystroke sequence for Question 1, for example, the constant number (0.1) and the constant operation (addition) are repeated.
