Lesson 4

Distance vs. Time

Est. Class Sessions: 4

Homework and Practice

  • After Part 3, assign Felicia's Bike Trip in the Homework section of the Student Guide. For this homework, students use a graph to solve problems with ratios. After Part 4, assign Speedy Problems in the Homework section of the Student Guide. Students use tools and strategies to solve problems involving ratios.
  • Assign DPP items M–T. For Bit M, students convert decimal fractions to common fractions. In Challenge N, students use a ratio comparing distance traveled and time to solve problems. Students use a chart to show equivalent ratios in Task P. Students use ratios to solve problems and to justify the reasoning of others in Bit Q. Students use data from the Distance vs. Time lab to solve a problem in Challenge R. Students use estimation strategies in Bit S. For Task T, students will graph data and use the graph to problem solve.
  • Assign Home Practice Parts 3–5. In Part 3, students use strategies to solve addition, subtraction, and multiplication problems. In Part 4, students use number lines and benchmark numbers to solve problems involving fractions. Students use a graph to answer questions using ratios in Part 5.

Math Facts. Bit O can be used to provide practice with the multiplication and division facts for the square numbers.
