Conclude the Workshop by sharing solution strategies to a few of the problems from the Workshop: Division Strategies pages. All the students in the class were assigned Question 10 and Check-In: Questions 11 and 12C–D. Have the students you selected share their strategies for the problem in Question 12C, 671 ÷ 5.
Ask questions such as the following to stimulate discussion:
- Explain [student name]'s strategy or procedure in your own words.
- Is this strategy on the Division Strategies Menu? Is it similar to a strategy on the menu?
- Does someone have a strategy different from [student name]'s?
- How are the strategies different?
- Does anyone have a strategy similar to [student name]'s?
- How are the strategies similar?
- What do the numbers mean in each solution?
- Is there a remainder?
- How does solving a problem two ways help to check for reasonableness?
- Which strategy do you like best? Why?
- Do you use that strategy all the time or do you choose different strategies for different problems? How do you choose them?
