Est. Class Sessions: 2

Homework and Practice

  • Questions 1–8 in the Student Guide may be assigned as homework at the end of Part 1.
  • The Homework section in the Student Guide provides practice translating among concrete, pictorial, and symbolic representations of numbers.
  • Assign Home Practice Parts 1 and 2. Home Practice Part 2 provides practice with factors and primes.
  • Assign DPP items A–D. Challenge D can serve as a Problem of the Week. It allows practice of the math facts while reinforcing the concepts of perimeter and area. Post it so it is visible to the whole class throughout the week. Ask students to be aware of the strategies they develop as they work. At the end of the week, have students share their strategies in a class discussion.
  • Students who need more practice representing numbers with base-ten pieces can play Make a Pack using copies of the Make a Pack and Make a Pack Game Board Masters in the Teacher Guide.

Math Facts. DPP Bit A provides practice with the multiplication facts for the 2s, 3s, and 9s using the Triangle Flash Cards. DPP Task B provides practice with the 5s and 9s facts through skip counting on a calculator. Bit C discusses the patterns for the 9s.

Home Practice Part 1 reminds students to practice their multiplication facts with their Triangle Flash Cards.
