TIMS Bit

Copy and distribute the Triangle Flash Cards for the last six facts. Part 1 of the Home Practice reminds students to bring home the list of facts they need to practice for homework. The Triangle Flash Cards should also be sent home.

Have students record the facts they know well on their Multiplication Facts I Know charts (from Unit 3). Students should circle the facts they know and can answer quickly. Since these charts can also be used as multiplication tables, students should have them available to use as needed.

Inform students when the quiz on the last six facts will be given. This quiz appears in TIMS Bit Y.

Ongoing Assessment

Students use DPP Item A and the Multiplication Facts I Know chart to self assess their fluency with the last six multiplication facts [E12].

See the Letter Home for targeted practice ideas.

A. Triangle Flash Cards: Last Six Facts

With a partner, use your Triangle Flash Cards to quiz each other on the multiplication facts for the last six facts. One partner covers the shaded corner containing the highest number. The second person multiplies the two uncovered numbers. These two are the factors.

Separate the used cards into three piles: Facts I Know Quickly, Facts I Can Figure Out, and Facts I Need to Learn. Practice the last two piles again, and then make a list of the facts you need to practice at home for homework.

Circle the facts you know quickly on your Multiplication Facts I Know chart.
