  1. 1/10 < 7/8
  2. 4/8 = 5/10
  3. 4/5 > 1/2
  4. 2/3 > 7/12
  5. 3/10 < 3/8
  6. 11/12 > 5/12
  7. Possible response: The numerators for both fractions are half of the denominators, so each of the fractions is equal to 1/2. 1/2 = 4/8 = 5/10.
  8. Possible response: When the numerators are equal, you can use the denominators to compare the fractions. Tenths are smaller than eighths, so 3/10 < 3/8.

EE. Compare Fractions

Use <, >, or = to compare each set of fractions. Use fraction circle pieces or the Fractions on Number Lines Chart from the Student Guide Reference section.

  1. 1/10 7/8
  2. 4/8 5/10
  3. 4/5 1/2
  4. 2/3 7/12
  5. 3/10 3/8
  6. 11/12 5/12
  1. Show or tell your reasoning for Question B.
  2. Explain your reasoning for Question E.
