TIMS Challenge

DPP item HH can be used as a Problem of the Week.

Answers will vary. One way to determine an answer to this type of question is to take a sample from a smaller part of the tree and then multiply.

Encourage students to think of the number of tens, hundreds, and thousands instead of the number of zeros.

Possible response: I can think 5 times 6 is 30; 5 times 60 is 5 times 6 tens, or 30 tens, which is 300; 5 times 600 is 5 times 6 hundreds, or 30 hundreds, which is 3000; 5 times 6 thousands is 30 thousands, or 30,000.
