TIMS Task

  1. Nila can make 5 vases. Possible response: I added 3/4 until I got close to 4 packages. 3/4 + 3/4 + 3/4 + 3/4 + 3/4 = 15/4 = 33/4 packages of clay.
  2. There will be 1/4 of a package left over. I subtracted 4 − 3 = 1 and then 1 − 3/4 = 1/4.

NN. Making Vases

Nila is making clay vases in art class. It takes 3/4 of a package of clay for each vase.

  1. How many vases will Nila be able to make with 4 packages of clay? Explain your reasoning.
