TIMS Task

  1. $4.50 per hour
    1. 16 hours. If he babysits for 16 hours, he will make $72 because 4.50 × 16 = 72, or 9 × 8 = 72.
    2. 7 days; In 2 days he babysits 5 hours. After 6 days he will have babysat 15 hours. He will need 1 additional hour on the seventh day.
  2. 8 hours × 2 = 16 hours a week; 16 hours × 4 weeks = 64 hours; 64 × $4.50 = $288.

J. Brandon the Babysitter

  1. If Brandon earns $9 for 2 hours of babysitting, what is his hourly rate?
    1. If Brandon needs $68.25 to buy a bike, how many hours will he need to babysit? Show or tell how you know.
    2. Every school day this month Brandon walks his neighbor, a second-grader, home from school. He babysits her from 3 to 5:30. How many days will it take Brandon to earn the money for the bike? Show or tell how you know.
  2. In the summer two families used Brandon as their babysitter. He worked 8 hours a week for each family. How much did he earn in one month? Show or tell how you know. (Assume there are 4 weeks in 1 month.)
