TIMS Challenge

This item can be used as a Problem of the Week. Solution strategies will vary. One possible strategy:

John: 2 inches/5 feet = 6 inches/15 feet

Frank: 5 inches/15 feet

6 inches/15 feet > 5 inches/15 feet

John's building will be larger.

V. Scale Models

Frank and John are each making models of the same building in their town. In John's model, 2 inches of the model represent 5 feet of the real building. In Frank's model, 5 inches represent 15 feet of the real building. Whose model will be larger? Explain why you think so.
