  1. The box is 8 inches in height.
    12 × 9 = 108
    108 × 8 = 864 cubic inches

    2. 1728 cubic inches; Possible response: If the area of the top is 144 square inches each of the lengths for the top will be 12 inches. In a cube, since all of edges are the same length, the height will also be 12 inches.
      12 × 12 × 12 = 1728 cubic inches

  1. Ming found a box to use for his rock collection. The bottom of the box is a rectangle with a length of 9 inches and a width of 12 inches. The total volume of the box is 864 cubic inches. What is the height of Ming's box?

    1. Keenya's hamster house is a cube. The top of the cube has an area of 144 square inches. What is the height of the hamster house?

    2. What is the volume of the hamster house? Show or tell how you solved the problem.
