TIMS Task

The other coins are dimes. I multiplied 4 × 5 grams = 20 grams to find the total weight of the nickels. Then I subtracted 38.114 – 20 = 18.114 grams left. I divided 18.114 ÷ 8 = 2.268 grams. Since 2.268 is the weight of a dime, the other coins are all dimes.

HH. Which Coin Is It

A penny weighs 2.5 grams. A nickel weighs 5 grams.
A dime weighs 2.268 grams. A quarter weighs 5.67 grams.

Ming has 12 coins. The total weight of all the coins is 38.144 grams. He has 2 different types of coins. Four of the 12 coins are nickels. What is the other coin? Show or tell how you solved this.
