Strategies for Adding and Subtracting Decimals

• Assign the Add Decimals with Grids and Number Lines Homework section from the Student Activity Book as homework after Part 1 of the lesson.
• Assign the Subtract Decimals with Grids and Number Lines Homework section from the Student Activity Book as homework after Part 2 of the lesson.
• Ask students to play Start, Hop, Stop to Hundredths Game Board at home with a family member after Part 2. Make copies of the Start, Hop, Stop to Hundredths Game Board Masters to send home.
• Assign DPP items S–X. In Task T, students practice applying the order of operations. In Bit U, students practice solving problems involving the negative numbers using a number line. In Challenge V, students solve a multistep problem involving the area of rectangles. In Bit W, students practice multiplying fractions by whole numbers. In Task X, students practice finding decimals on a number line.

Math Facts. In Bit S and Task T, students practice the multiplication and division facts.
