Direct students' attention to a monthly calendar.

  1. November 19; 14 + 5 = 19; Possible response: I used a number line. I started at 14 and counted five more and landed on 19.
  2. November 25; 21 + 4 = 25; Possible response: I looked at the calendar. I started on 21 and counted on 4 days and landed on 25.
  3. November 24; 27 − 3 = 24; Possible response: I counted back on the calendar 27, 26, 25, 24.
