TIMS Task

Students will need a ruler readily available.

  1. 8 miles
Explanations may vary. Using the best-fit line, Jerome can ride 4 miles in 30 minutes.
Double 30 minutes to get 60 min. or one hour. Double 4 miles to get 8 miles.

T. Riding Bicycles

  1. Jerome rode his bicycle at a steady speed. It took him 15 minutes to ride 2 miles. Make a graph that shows the distance Jerome traveled and the time it took. Put time on the horizontal axis and distance on the vertical axis. (Hint: Put a point on the graph that represents the time and distance when he starts. What distance has he traveled at 0 seconds?)
  2. How far can Jerome travel in one hour? Show or tell how you know.
