TIMS Challenge

Use DPP Challenge BB as a Problem of the Week.

  1. Some possibilities are:
    25 ÷ 5 × 10 = 50;
    (25 + 5) ÷ 10 = 3;
    (25 − 5) ÷ 10 = 2
  2. Some possibilities are:
    30 ÷ 6 + 2 = 7;
    30 × 6 ÷ 2 = 90;
    (30 − 6) × 2 = 48;
    30 − 6 × 2 = 18;
    30 + 6 − 2 = 34

BB. How Many Answers

Leaving the numbers in the order given, use operations (+, −, ×, ÷) and parentheses to get as many different answers as you can. You may use an operation more than once.

Example: 2      4      6
2 + 4 × 6 = 26
(2 + 4) × 6 = 36
(2 + 4) ÷ 6 = 1

Only whole numbers are allowed at each step. For example, 2 ÷ 4 + 6 is not allowed, since 2 ÷ 4 = 1/2.

  1. 25    5    10
  2. 30    6    2
