TIMS Bit

Copy and distribute the Triangle Flash Cards: 2s, 3s, and 9s. Part 1 of the Home Practice reminds students to bring home the list of the facts they need to practice for homework along with the Triangle Flash Cards.

Students circle the facts they know well on their Multiplication Facts I Know charts (from Unit 3). Remind them that if they know a fact, they also know its turn-around fact. Students should have their charts available to use as multiplication tables.

Inform students when the quizzes on the twos, threes, and nines will be given. The quiz on the 2s and 3s is in DPP item CC. The quiz for the 9s is in DPP item GG.

Ongoing Assessment

Use DPP Bit A to assess students' fluency with the multiplication facts for the 2s, 3s, and 9s [E12].

See the Letter Home for targeted practice ideas.

A. Triangle Flash Cards: 2s, 3s, and 9s

With a partner, use your Triangle Flash Cards to quiz each other on the multiplication facts involving twos, threes, and nines. One partner covers the shaded corner (containing the highest number). This number will be the answer to a multiplication fact called the product. The second person multiplies the two other numbers, one of which is circled and the other is in a square. These two are the factors.

Separate the used cards into three piles: Facts I Know Quickly, Facts I Can Figure Out, and Facts I Need to Learn. Practice the last two piles again and then make a list of the facts you need to practice at home for homework.

Circle the facts you know and can answer quickly on your Multiplication Facts I Know chart.
