Lesson 2

Divisibility Rules

Est. Class Sessions: 2

Summarizing the Lesson

If you have not yet posted a class list of divisibility rules, then have the class generate a list at this time. Ask partners to look back over their work in Questions 1–23 and make their own lists. Then lead a class discussion that generates a list similar to the following:

  • A number is divisible by 2 if the digit in the ones place is 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8.
  • A number is divisible by 3 if the sum of its digits is divisible by 3.
  • A number is divisible by 5 if the digits in the ones place is 0 or 5.
  • A number is divisible by 6 if it is divisible by 2 and divisible by 3.
  • A number is divisible by 9 if the sum of its digits is divisible by 9.
  • A number is divisible by 10 if the digit in the ones place is 0.

Have students complete Check-In: Question 24 as an assessment.

Use Check-In: Question 24 in the Student Guide to assess students' abilities to use the divisibility rules [E1].
