Lesson 6

Using Multiplication Strategies

Est. Class Sessions: 2

Homework and Practice

  • Questions 1–4 in the Homework section in the Student Guide may be assigned after either day of the lesson. Question 5 can be assigned after Part 2.
  • Assign DPP items Q–T. In Bit Q, students will be shown a multiplication or addition problem quickly then asked to estimate the answer. Task R requires students to round the areas of three large oceans to solve comparison problems. In Task T, students solve multiplication problems using paper and pencil or mental math and estimate answers to check for reasonableness.

Math Facts. For Bit S, students study the multiplication and division facts for the 2s and 3s by completing the number sentences in the fact families.

Remind students to take home their Triangle Flash Cards to practice the division facts for the 2s and 3s.
