Developing the Lesson

Part 3. Revisit Floor Tiler

Refer students to the Revisit the Floor Tiler Game section in the Student Guide. Introduce the problem situation by reading Question 1 and showing a display of Lee Yah's and Romesh's grids from the Student Guide. Revisiting this game scenario will get students to think about game strategy and encourage students to compare the number of factors of different numbers. Ask pairs to complete and discuss Questions 1–4. The Floor Tiler game can also serve as targeted practice for solving multiplication and division problems with rectangles [E1].

Put materials for the Floor Tiler game into a center for students to practice using rectangles (arrays) to solve multiplication and division problems.
