TIMS Task

  1. No, they are not in the right order. 5/6 is larger than 5/8. I know that because the numerator are both 5 and when you divide a whole into 6 pieces the pieces will be larger than when you divide in to 8 pieces.
  2. He can choose the card with 5/12 on it. When I compared the fractions I saw that 5/10 is the same as 1/2 so I needed to find a fraction that was less than 1/2. The cards with 3/5 and 2/3 have fractions that are greater than 1/2. The card with 1/8 on it has a fraction that is less than 1/5 so it would go between 0/3 and 1/5 not between 1/5 and 5/10.

LL. Fraction Order

Nicholas and Jessie played a game of Fraction Order. Nicholas filled his game board first.

  1. Check Nicholas's completed Game Board. Are his fractions in the correct order? Show or tell how you know.
  2. Look at Jessie's Game Board and the fraction cards below. Which fraction card should Jessie place on his board to win the game. Show or tell how you know.
