Using Circle Pieces

In the remaining lessons of this unit, students use pieces from the fraction circle sets. Storing individual sets in resealable plastic bags provides easy access to all the pieces.

In this lesson, students work with all the pieces but the black pieces. The black pieces are introduced in Lesson 8. This lesson assumes that your students used circle pieces to study fractions in Grade 3. If they did not, have students complete the Circle Pieces Review Master before beginning the Student Guide activities. In this initial activity, students are introduced to the red, orange, yellow, blue, and aqua pieces. They begin to learn the sizes of the different colored pieces and how the pieces relate to each other. After students complete the Circle Pieces Review Master, begin Part 1 of the lesson.
