Workshop: Shapes and Properties
Est. Class Sessions: 1–2Extension
Have students look for examples of tessellations and Escher drawings in books or using the Internet. They can then identify congruent shapes, slides, flips, and turns. Students can view more Escher drawings at www.mcescher.com. They can create tessellations using the Tessellations Creator activity at http://illuminations.nctm.org or the Tessellations activity for grades 3–5 in the National Library of Virtual Manipulatives at http://nlvm.usu.edu.
